Sristhal BMC eager to start Multi-Processing Units

Goemkarponn desk CANACONA – Eager to take up processing of natural resources, Sristhal Bio-diversity Management Committee (BMC) took on a study tour of Multi Processing Centres in Pontemoll (Churchorem) and Kotambi(Bicholim) on Tuesday. The full-day study trip has impressed upon the Shrishthal team members. They, according to Sristhal BMC chairman Vinay Tubki gained very much knowledge and information, motivating the members to start one or more of such types of self-employment generated multi-processing centres (MPCs) using the local natural resources available in Shristhal Village Panchayat region of Canacona taluka. As a special initiative of BMC, VP Shristhal, Canacona, on Tuesday, under the Chairmanship of Vinay Tubki, Panchayat Secretary Sushant Lolayekar, and BMC members Shirish Pai, Damodar Vasant Chari, Chanda Desai, Anjali Gaonkar, Anjali Vagonkar, Satyavan Naik Gaonkar, Tejas Naik Gaonkar and like-minded person’s like Navjyot Naik Gaunkar have visited two newly started Multi processing centres set up in Pale Kotambi, Bicholim Taluka and Pantemol Curchorem. The same was established by Goa State Biodiversity Board under the guidance of Member Secretary (GSBB) Dr Pradip Sarmokadam. It may be recalled that GSBB has taken up this very important and deserving step to becoming the only government body to start these types of Multiprocessing centres in an equal partnership with local village-level communities, who also had the support and cooperation of local women’s Self-Help Group’s to start production using locally available bioresources branding with GOVAN concepts. During the Shrishthal team visit, representatives of respective MPCs showcased all the manufacturing equipment and infrastructure in this newly started processing centre and explained in detail the processing procedure of various bioresources of their region. BMC Shrishthal member- Damodar Chari informed, ‘we have been shown the process of various products using local bio-resources such as jackfruit chips, jackfruit Pickle’s, Bimbli Squash, Karmala Squash, Coconut Oil, local chilli including other products such as Kokum, Jamun, Mango, etc…’. “Later, we also visited the Community Seed Bank Unit of Curtorim village Panchayat and met with the social worker Santan Rodriguez, Ex Z. P. Member and Chairman of BMC and interacted with him regarding the running of seed Bank unit’, informed State Awardee and BMC Sristhal member,” Shirish Pai.
